First Half 2019

Posted May 17th, 2019

Welcome to 2019 a much better start weather wise than 2018,giving us all a chance to get out in our lovely cars. We kicked off the year with a visit to The Mercure Hotel near Kidderminster in January for our Post-Christmas Lunch. There was a super turn out, with many of us managing to arrive in style. The Hotel took care of us well, providing a lovely lunch in a great setting.

The Annual Dinner had a fantastic number of members this year making their way to Haughton Hall in Shropshire. It has been quite a while since we visited here, but they really did us proud. We had a lovely room, laid out beautifully, with an amazing menu which suited many different dietary needs at a fabulous price! We were so comfortable none of us wanted to go home.

During April, we spent our Spring Weekend in Betsy-y-Coed, Wales at the Waterloo Hotel. We took over 9 rooms, a splendid amount for such a small club. The weather forecast was not great for the Saturday, but this didn't deter several members from bringing their proper cars, well done. It's such a lovely relaxed time with members socialising during and pre-meal times, but feeling able to go off and explore during the day. This year several destinations were visited, Penrhyn Castle, Bangor, Conwy, Blaenau Ffestiniog deep slate mine and Porthmadog. These visits weren't without some problems, as the weather had brought a tree down on the Blaenau Ffestiniog line so caused delays, the main line had suffered a land slide over winter so was using a bus, and heavy rain, snow and hail made driving interesting. We all returned with many stories to tell, I think the overall winners were the cafes.

As we were away on our weekend for the official St.Georges day drive we are celebrating this now, in May. We're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather as we explore the beautiful English countryside, before sitting down to a lunch with our friends where we can discuss all the excitement of the drive.

Latter part of 2018

Posted Dec 3rd, 2018

We've ended the year as busy as we started it.

The glorious summer lingered on into Autumn and early Winter. Our Chairman's at home B.B.Q. in August was nearly an 'oven party' due to the high winds and rain, one of only a few days days during the summer which were so bad. Still we had a good turn-out and raised £150 for Prostate Cancer. A massive thank-you to all who attended.

During September we had a fabulous trip to Harvington Hall, which was really well attended. The tour was very informative and showed us all it's hidden secrets. The Pub afterwards was able to cater for all our needs.

Avoncroft, in October, is another hidden gem to visit. The weather had by now well and truly broken, but the heavy rain did not deter us from looking around all the interesting buildings. The on-site cafe did us proud with lots of tea and coffee and a light lunch in our own room.

We've rounded off the year with our 58th A.G.M.at Henley Golf club. A superb meal was followed by our meeting. Have great Christmas every-one and we'll see you in the New Year.

Spring 2018

How the year moves on at a pace, we're already in August. We have been really lucky with the weather on all of our events. Our drive it day in April went around the Gaydon area taking in all the beautiful countryside followed by a lovely lunch. The week-end was a real success. The College Court Hotel in Leicester did us proud and the visit to the King Richard III Visitor Centre was really interesting. Our trip to Alrewas was as poignant as ever, with lots of new memorials to see.July's treasure hunt was a huge success with lots of cars taking to the roads around Chipping Campden. The clues were as clever as ever and the route lovely passing near the lavender fields. We finished off the day with a superb meal at Charingworth Manor.
